Poultry Litter Biochar as a Gentle Soil Amendment in Multi-Contaminated Soil: Quality Evaluation on Nutrient Preservation and Contaminant Immobilization

چکیده

Poultry litter biochar (PLB) has great potential for carbon (C) sequestration, which been confirmed in the previous study. The promising of PLB nutrient preservation and contaminant immobilization, however, not well studied. A multi-contaminated soil, mainly contaminated by chrome (Cr), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), zinc (Zn) was selected this short-term incubation purpose study to evaluate effects after on release available nutrients (phosphorus, P; potassium, K; calcium, Ca; magnesium, Mg) solubility Cr, Cu, Ni, Zn. results 56-day indicated that high-temperature pyrolysis (>400 °C) raise soil pH, electrical conductivity (EC), concentrations P, K, Mg; maintenance lower Cr Cu a decline Ni Zn were also observed. increased with dissolved organic (DOC) increased, suggesting co-mobilization occurred. decreased adsorption and/or soil. We recommend use 5% high temperature (500 600 as gentle amendment achieve C provide nutrients, maintain low Cr/Cu, reduce Ni/Zn availability.

Contaminant immobilization and nutrient release by biochar soil amendment: roles of natural organic matter.

Contamination of soil interstitial waters by labile heavy metals such as Cu(II), Cd(II), and Ni(II) is of worldwide concern. Carbonaceous materials such as char and activated carbon have received considerable attention in recent years as soil amendment for both sequestering heavy metal contaminants and releasing essential nutrients like sulfur. Information is currently lacking in how aging impa...

Effects of biochar amendment on soil aggregates and hydraulic properties

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of biochar amendment on soil aggregate formation and stability, and soil hydraulic properties. Biochar produced from dairy manure was added to two different soils (a silty clay and a sandy loam soil) at a ratio of 2% (w/w in dry weight basis). Incubation experiments were conducted within a 90-d period with the soils (the controls) and the soi...

Enhanced Bio-Immobilization of Pb Contaminated Soil by Immobilized Bacteria with Biochar as Carrier

This paper examines the potential value of phosphate-solubilizing bacteria(PSB) in the dissolution of soil phosphorus and in the subsequent immobilization of lead (Pb), both in bacterial growth medium and in soil. In growth medium, Pseudomonas chlororaphis showed both phosphate-solubilizing and Pb-immobilizing capability, the immobilization of Pb was attributed to pyromorphite formation, as ind...

Combination of biochar amendment and phytoremediation for hydrocarbon removal in petroleum-contaminated soil

Remediation of soils contaminated with petroleum is a challenging task. Four different bioremediation strategies, including natural attenuation, biochar amendment, phytoremediation with ryegrass, and a combination of biochar and ryegrass, were investigated with greenhouse pot experiments over a 90-day period. The results showed that planting ryegrass in soil can significantly improve the remova...

Soil compaction and poultry litter effects on factors affecting nitrogen availability in a claypan soil

Soil compaction may affect N mineralization and the subsequent fate of N in agroecosystems. Laboratory incubation and field experiments were conducted to determine the effects of surface soil compaction on soil N mineralization in a claypan soil amended with poultry litter (i.e., Turkey excrement mixed with pine shavings as bedding). In a laboratory study, soil from the surface horizon of a Mex...
